FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT SCREENING
Functional Movement Screening (FMS) is a rating and ranking system that captures basic movement patterns, motor control, and measures the competency of fundamental movement patterns. Designed to bring awareness of movement at the start of any exercise program, this screening tool emphasizes movement quality over quantity and is used to identify movement deficiencies.
FMS uses seven exercises to document movement patterns that are key to normal function to identify functional limitations and asymmetries, asymmetries that may reduce the effects of functional training and physical condition as well as distort body awareness.
FMS addresses movement patterns as a whole and is used when determining the appropriate exercise program for all individuals. Through the use of the FMS, a Functional Movement Screen Score is generated. This score helps your fitness coach target problems and track progress more accurately. This scoring system is linked to the most beneficial corrective exercises to restore mechanically sound movement patterns.
An FMS Session is a one-on-one session with a LifeScience Kinesiologist and will take approximately 30 minutes.
