A healthy gut also has to have an intact and properly functioning gut lining to ensure adequate absorption of nutrients. An impaired gut lining is termed as a “leaky gut” and can prevent proper and timely absorption of food and nutrients.
The FST works on the premise that food sensitivity could be evidence of a leaky gut. When you eat a food you’re intolerant to, you trigger your immune system and cause inflammation in the gut and in any other organ system that is affected by that inflammation. You fix a leaky gut by eliminating these sensitivity and giving your gut a rest from these triggers, affording it a chance to repair itself.
The main purpose of the FST is to personalize the patient’s elimination diet. The actual healing process starts when these foods are eliminated. The inflammation triggered by consuming these sensitivity goes down. The elimination diet is a form of treatment and is not meant to be permanent.
Autoimmunity is evidence of an immune system imbalance — an inappropriate reaction to your own body tissues. Seventy percent of inflammatory tissue in the body resides in the gut, so if you can manage the inflammation triggered by the leaky gut and food sensitivity, you decrease your immune system triggers by a good percentage. That can be one way to help restore balance to an immune system that is attacking its own “home”.
